About Hannah
Welcome to New Growth Mental Health! I’m Hannah Vander Broek, a Certified Social Worker licensed for Private and Independent Practice. I graduated from Augustana University in 2015, and went on to receive my Masters in Social Work from the University of Iowa in 2020. I specialize in supporting teens and adults who have a hard time staying motivated, are dealing with overwhelming worry, or who feel like the world is not safe for them. I provide space to start slow, and believe that building a strong therapeutic relationship is the best foundation for feeling safe enough to start the process of change. My job is to help you make sense of how you’re feeling, understand the way you approach the world, and facilitate change by getting to know the vulnerable parts of you that try to hide away. Whether you are looking to start exploring change, or just need a new perspective, click below to schedule a free 15-minute consultation with me. I look forward to hearing from you!
The Therapeutic Process
New to therapy and nervous about what goes on in session? Here’s a quick breakdown of what to expect.
Before the first session: During your consultation call, we will talk candidly about your needs and what I can do to support you. I’ll get you started with a Client Portal Profile that we use to review and sign paperwork, gather insurance information, and schedule appointments. You will have time to complete some brief assessments, share your story, and review my terms of service through the Portal before your intake session.
Intake session: I will review with you the forms you completed through the Portal and ask some more in-depth questions about your experience. We will spend some time getting to know each other, and talk about your goals for therapy.
Treatment planning session: During our second session, we work together to build a formal treatment plan based on your goals and expectations. We review and update this treatment plan throughout the Therapeutic Process.
In following sessions, we will continue to get to know each other and build a solid therapeutic relationship. We will identify and challenge unhelpful patterns, and uncover vulnerable and valuable parts of your personality that have been hidden away behind defenses. Using a combination of talk therapy, EMDR, mindfulness and emotional regulation skills training, and somatic calming exercises, we will work together towards shifting the way you approach the world to help you feel more relaxed, empowered, and confident.
